Card Reader Question

I would like to install an internal compact flash reader
in one of my computer bays. My computer only has USB1.1 so I will have to also install a USB 2.0 PCI card
(I want as fast as reasonable transfer of images) and then connect the reader to the card. Does anyone have this type of setup that can give some advice on potential pitfalls, equipment vendors, etc. or another method that will better accomplish this?

As far as alternatives, I had an internal USB reader and stopped using it because I got this;

...and put a 30 gig hard drive in it,. now I have a USBII reader and poratable storage for my camera :)

Thanks CDS...Option 3 is out for now, trying to save for a lense...Options 1 & 2 is about what I had in mind but I understand the "internal" connection is a problem because most internal readers expect to be connected to the USB connector on the MOBO which in my case is USB 1.1. I want USB 2.0 so have to use a PCI card which doesn't have the MOBO type of connector. That is why I was hoping someone had already blazed this trail.
By the way, I heard that not all flash cards will transfer at USB 2.0 speeds anyway. Any truth to this? Anyone? Thanks again.

Hi,

With most cards (including the one above) there are both external ports and internal ports (like the mobo ports)

Even if a peripheral were to come with a USB cable that has only a motherboard jack on one end,. any standard USB cable would solve that issue.

RE SPEED:

Some flash cards may not use the USB2 FULL speed availabe,, but all Compact flash cards are indeed faster than USB1,.. so no matter what you will see a speed boost. (I have both "Fast" compact falsg cards and some "standard" speed cards,. and they all benifit from USB2 speeds,.. :)

PS,.. although companies like Belkin may try to say (and price) otherwise,. there is NO DIFFERENCE in the Cable needed for USB2 Vs. USB1... all USB cables will transfer at USB2 speeds if attached to USB2 controller and equipment.

Thanks again CDS...I'm glad to hear about the speed. Now if I underatand you correctly, you're saying that the back of the internal card reader has a "common" USB connector? I know that almost all PCI (USB 2.0) card controllers (with internal connector) has one and then your suggestion of using a regular USB cable (internally) would work. However, I was under the impression that the card reader connector was a straight line MOBO type, NOT a regular USB connector.

Shows that the package contains two USB cables one for connecting the reader to a standard jack like those found on the back of a PC or a hub,. and one to connect it to a motherboard "header" pin connector.

The description reads;
