Now here is another of my bright questions:
I just got the 50mm f2.5 macro lens. Minimum focusing distance is 23cm, which is about this distance below:

Now, what if I wanted to get even closer, like say to have the headlight assembly fill most of the frame, do I go with a close-up lens like the 250D, or do I go with the Extension Tubes? I really don't get the concept: should I magnify at the lens' end, or magnify by increasing the focal length? Or is there a better way?

You could use either. Personally, I start with the close-up lens because you get a longer working distance, which helps with bugs and the like. Your little car wouldn't mind too much, I guess. :)
You can get e-tubes and close-up lenses tohber for even greater magnification.

The thing with the Canon 50mm macro is that it won't do 1:1 without the EF lifesize adapter. It does 1:2 without attachments. It sounds like you are looking for 1:1 reproduction. Your options are, the EF lifesize adapter, diopter lenses, extention tubes or buying a lens that does 1:1 like the canon ef100mm macro or the sigma 50mm macro.
have fun.

So just putting the 250D close-up lens won't do it? And won't I lose an f-stop if I used a life-size converter on the 50mm lens?

Before I bought my macro lens, the 100, I tried a friends 50mm macro. It just wasn't doing it for me. I always felt like I was just too close to the subject to get the maximum macro effect. I've never been a fan of tubes and extenders so that is why I went to the 100mm macro.
