Digital Photo Pro is pretty good. There are others that cater to B&W film enthusiasts, but I only look through them in the bookstore.

I recommend going to the best bookstores around your area and browsing the magazines yourself. Depending of what your interests and needs are...different magazines may meet them. My local Barnes and Noble has quite a selection.

Shutterbug (http://www.shutterbug.com/) is pretty decent.
Photo-Techniques (http://www.phototechmag.com/) is thin, but the the most technically sophisticated.
Aperture (http://www.aperture.org/) is the most aesthetically minded.
But as mentioned above, you need to look for yourself. The question you are asking is not far from "What is the best color to have as my favorite?"

PhotoLife. Keeps it to photography rather then ads about Camera Gear.

PhotoLife.
Seconded. Excellent magazine, for just the reason you stated - it sticks to photography over gear.

Mark i recently picked up a copy of this one . . . it seemed that it had a lot of stuff geared towards medium format. I also believe there are only 6 issues/yr.

I used to buy them but found that after a while they became monotonous. Usualy the same stuff in a different format. Now I just browse the net.
Most of them focus on techniques and once you get them down reasonably well it leaves the readers portfolios etc and the advertising.

i do think it sucks that DPP is only 6/year, and they do a bunch of MF stuff, but not all, its usually fairly even distribution.
i love photolife as well but its tough to find around here :(
