Hi!

I've been using G3 for a while, and indeed, it is a great camera with lot of potential.

I have one problem - I can't find the body number anywhere. I need it to check if my camera needs firmware update.

I've checked the bottom of the camera - nothing. Also there isn't any number on the box itself.

I read somewhere that the Exif-information contains also serial / body number. I checked with couple of programs (Exif Viewer, ACDSee) - nothing :(

In Zoombrowser there's "Camera Settings" and some information about the G3, like firmware and model AND also Body number, which is grayed out :(

I'm running out of options...

I have also a second question - is there a counter that shows the amount of taken pictures from the beginning?

Thanks for the great board, Pekka!

Body number? I have no idea what that is - do you mean serial number?

If you registered the cam with Canon after your purchase, you should be able to get your serial number from their records. If you didn't register it with Canon, perhaps the retailer still has a record of who bought what serial number camera.

The serial number ( = body number; same thing) is on the bottom of the camera and the side of the box. If yours isn't there, something's wrong. Did you buy yours used?

Really? Did you buy your camera at a retailer?

Usually if you did buy the camera through a retailder(through my experience) they record down your serial number on the receipt (so to prove the authenticy of the camera when you need to return the camera for repairs)

Yep, I bought the camera used. I did get a receipt, the camera was originally bought at the beginning of this year from quite well-known computer store. The receipt didn't have though serial number :(

OK, so call or e-mail the store, and have them look it up in their records.

I'll do that. Let's hope they have saved the serial number.

Damn, I really thought I could get it from the camera with some program.
