I just took some night shots with my Rebel XT. When I preview them in Zoom Browser they look fine (or crappy... I'm still learning) but when I open them in CS2 they look like daylight shots but with stars.

Why this happen?? I believe that Photoshop's RAW converter is set, by default, to adjust your exposure automatically. The exposure, contrast, brightness, and shadows sliders should have "auto" boxes by them that you can uncheck for your original shot . . . That's how it is on CS and PSE3.0 . . .

yea, my question is that the default thing on PS doesn't seem too good. I mean look at that image? Why do they have this thing set to default???

It is done that way because some just want the auto to take care of there shots. If you would like to turn it off do the following:

Open a RAW image in CS2.
Press CTRL U to turn off auto.
Click on the right arrow next to the drop down menu on the right side of ACR.
Select Save New Camera Raw Settings.

Now every image you open will come in as shot and not on auto.

God! THANK YOU MIKE! I've never noticed that arrow there and the auto settings have always bugged me. I just figured there was no way to have them off by default.

This is the exact reason why I love this forum! I feel like a heavy burden has just been lifted from my back :)

Of course, you can just move any of the sliders and they will drop out of auto mode.
