I just read that kodak has announced it's strategy to move away from it's traditional film business and invest $3 billion on digital technology. Wow! Wonder what eastman would think?

You had to see this one coming, what with the layoffs they had and the strong push they put on with there digital cameras, I think they're going to also put a lot into there Photo printer papers, speaking of printers New Girl did you get your Canon i960 and what do you think? Back to Kodak, they also have a 14mg DSLR with a Nikon lens etc. for around $5,000 I think. So I think they relieze where the future is.

At one point Kodak was at the frefront of the DSLR world with there awkward and huge DCS cameras.
I allways wondered when they would stop making these Frankenstein looking Nikons (and Canons too, right? ) with with Die Hard car batteries welded to the bottom and get serious about there own cameras.
The DCS 14MegaPixel is a step in the right direction but it still looks like a prototype mock up when compared to a Nikon, Canon or even a Fuji S2.
Even there little digicams pretty much were bottom of the barrel untill VERY recently.
They will be forced to evolve,. it is too bad that a company that had grabbed an early lead in pro digital then let themselves slip so far behind.

CDS; I couldn't agree with you more on this, there DSLR is huge and clunky compared to the Nikons and Canon, I will say thou that there newest consumer model at least looks pretty nice. Maybe they should concentrate more on great quality photo papers and in store kiosks where you can get Kodak quality prints from your memory cards.. :D

I have to disagree on one point.
The Kodak DC4800 is still one of the best point &shoot cameras ever invented. Relatively fast turn on to take picture (about same time as 10D from turn on) and fast press button to shutter release (slightly slower then 10D, but faster then all but the newest releases I have tried out. It had a lens kit which while limited I still use if I need a very wide angle shot (since the 10D has that annoying FOV crop factor).
In short if I had gotten anything but the Kodak DC4800, I probably would not have gotten into digital photography when I did. I know several people who have enjoyed using it, because it is still faster then a lot of newer point and shoots.
They did an outstanding job on that one, but for some reason the DX series came out and was not quite as good from my limited experience, but does have the nifty docking station stuff.
Kodak knows they have to go digital and trust me when I say, they have some unique knowledge that will eventual give them a huge advantage over Canon or Nikon, when and if they tap into it for the commercial realm. [Note: I would prefer though that they make their interchangable lens cameras with EF lens format though, instead of Nikon]
Just my opinion,
