I can not express how much I regret my camera NOT being set to RAW. It took hours to get these looking as "o-kay" as they are in PS... the next series of images were shot the same day in RAW and the final post processed images took about 8 minutes each and the quality is vastly superior.

For me it is not a prob of jpeg or raw ....
it is a prob of the sharpness... the lense... or the photographer...

CDS
THese are wonderful shots
**********************
But why didn't you post jpg of the RAW ?
I am amazed at the T & A at ISO 100.
******************************
Gees with the G2 it would have to be a very bright day to see those settings. (I still shoot in jpg cause my hard drive is full and my adult boys are tired of writing my CD's!)

So fall is ending. How about some more shots in the magic hour with light and the bird on a stick ... or... a rainy day mist rising off the pond et al. Come on CDS we wnat you to win that Wildlife contest.
You are close. Very close.

Howie,. thanks for your comments :)
I posted some of the raw images (well jpg's of the raw images) here;

As far as shutter and Aperture,.
I KNOW!!!!
It makes no sense! I seem to be getting better shutter speeds at smaller apertures with this lens?????? I get better shutter speeds with this lens than I am used to getting with my f/2.8 lens???
I am shooting under exposed by one or two clicks of the dial,. but I have set the custm function to break stops into thirds,. so I am either one thrd or two thirds of a full stop underexposed,. (I find that this in combination with shooting RAW is a silver bullet for bright sunlight. No more blown highlights,. ever!)

CDS, WOW, you nailed it, those are great, shots, I'm jealous once again, crsip and sharp. Who cares about RAW in this case, unless you were going to do 40X60 poster in your living room (lol) Those are fabulous.

those shots are just beautiful cyber.
only saw them now.
the legs and the beak are perfect in line in the second shot especially
(well, as almost as is possible in such a shot)
love the way the legs are dangling in the first
before the 'off ' really takes off
really good
:)

Thank you Marie. This was truly a right place/right time scenario... that he took that circle right in front of me and my big lens :D

CDS,
These shots are fine, especially the second one where the light is just right on the neck and face of the Heron; looks like the wing had just moved up enough to give this shot some real color character; I'd be proud of these.

Very nice vantage point for these shots. I have heard a lot of good about that lens, but it's out of my reach. Shot with the MkIII? How did you even find jpg on that?
