has anybody here used a set of hiking poles that can also be used as a Monopod?
I know somebody makes them but I do not know who.

I've also seen a few from Leki. it just didn't have the rigidity I like in a monopod, and I didn't need a walking stick. So i'll stick with my Bogen heavy, beatup, scratched and still working 3249B and 3218 monopods.

I have a pair of Leki Makalu trekking photo poles

no way as good as a proper monopod, but better than no pole at all when you are up a mountain and it is windy.

In Herbert Keppler's article, Camera-Bag-o-Mania, in this month's Popular Photography, he mentions his involvment with Jerry Deutsch, Director of
Marketing at Adorama, in developing a new monopod after losing his trusty $182 Linhof Monomatic.

It looks quite nice and retracts to only 14". Humm... maybe this would be quite handy in the back-pack... Does anyone else have one of these and if so, how do you like it? Now, can you use this as a hiking pole?
