oh wow you guys are going to SHOOT me

Ok I finally had it narrowed down to a 24-105 and a 70-200 with a 10-22 possibly

Then I did a double take... and thought 17-40 and 70-200 again, which would be the price of the 24-105 alone, and then could throw in a Tamron if I felt like it.

I was scared that if I threw in a 10-22 after that and had the Tamron as well, the 17-40 would serve no purpose (but then I could sell it)

Ugh too many threads.. must be agonizing for you

I apologize... but:

17-40 f/4L
50 1.8 (already have)
70-200 f/4L

-OR-

10-22 (later on)
24-105 f/4L
70-200 f/4L

the second one seems to fit better with each other all but it is considerably more expensive. However if I replace the 24-105 with a tamron 28-75, the price drops to around $1700 which is a more reasonable alternative to the $1100-1200

ugh I'm in the same boat again

and again the debate whether the 17-40 would be wide enough
I don't want to regret doing something later on, since it's a big investment (for me).

How does the color of the 24-105 compare to the 17-40. The colors on the latter look just amazing. Is the 24-105 as good (I sure hope so).

Another thing is that the latter plan is nicer all at once, but harder to build up. I couldn't live with just the 10-22 or the 70-200...I'd have to go for the Standard Zoom in the beginning, and then work my way up to one of those, and then the other. Which is hard. I may not end up needing the UWA, and $1200, then $600 isn't that bad, but would I end up missing the wide? I guess I'll know when it happens. Would it be a waste then if I bought the 17-40 then for the extra 7mm if I didn't feel like UW? Would that be economical?

Alright as usual, I went too far. What it comes down to is: Which? Why? and does the 24-105 have good color?

What I would really like is for Canon to come out with a 17-85 that's L quality and not digital-only. That would probably be my dream lens

Would be easier if you just edited your first post in the others threads, and stated that you edited it, cause your bumping other threads to the next page with all these threads.

You forgetting Canon has rebates ( until tomorrow ) on those lenses ?

Id go with the 70-200 cause right now you only have a 55 as your max focal length. If you have been shooting alot of 18m you may want to go with the 10-22, Did you take the Tokina 12-24 into conisderation ? Great Reviews I recommend it highly and it goes for $500 and its a f/4. That would run you around 1100. Then down the road get the 24-105 if you want something to fill the gaps more. Just my 2cents.

the main factor in this descision is whether the color of the 24-105 is as good as the 17-40s. Then I can worry about which to buy first, which to be honest would probably be the standard zoom since i only have the 18-55

I really just have to go out shooting and analyze and see which focal length i use most often and I'll get back to you, I'm going out tuesday so once i get back I'll see

Hey Greg, I sympathise - it's a hard set of choices, but if it is any help at all, check my sig - I'm happy with the 17-40 as a walk about and the 70-200 as a special medium to tele lens.
Both of these lenses are superb, and excellent value for money. and if you decide one was a mistake or you want to upgrade, a well looked after premium Canon EF lens can be sold on for minimal loss.
I think you get more value from this combo than the others you mention.
Just my 2p - but you'll love whatever you end up with. Just do yourself a favour and buy soon, or something might pop!

#1: 17-40 f/4L #2: 10-22 (later on)
50 1.8 (already have) 24-105 f/4L
70-200 f/4L 70-200 f/4L

Things to consider, based on my observations of the two alternatives:

Kit 1: Is 17mm wide enough for you? Is 28-64mm (FF equiv.) good enough of a range for you for a walkaround lens?

Kit #2: Does having 70-105 (112mm-168mm FF equiv.) in two lenses bother you with excessive duplication? Can you get by with 38-168mm (FF equiv) as your walkaround until you can afford the 10-22 for wider shots?

YOU need to answer questions based on YOUR priorities. The choice is YOURS.

Yea like a blood vessel in my head

I really do like the 17-40 but then i probably will end up selling it. I'm not sure I'm on a tight budget so I guess 17-40 and 70-200 would be the least amount of money, as opposed to the other two, being an extra $600-1400

It just seems like 17-40 and 70-200 don't match together as well as a 24-105... but then again the 40-50 and 50-70 I highly doubt I'd miss. I'd just have to use my feet

No IS, but hey I get two L lenses for the price of 1 :)

Even so as many opinions as possible would help
