View Full Version : Picture of a very large fire

Okay, there are no flames, and it doesn't look that big, and the fact that I shot it with a 24mm lens at the wrong time of day doesn't help either, but this is a very large fire. Perhaps you've heard about it in the news. So far it has burned over 40,000 acres, and is only about 15% contained. It's actually several miles from my vantage point in this picture (3rd level in a parking garage), and the smoke extends to the horizon. Thankfully, we are well to the south and in no danger, but many homes have already been lost, and others will likely be burned before this monster is extinguished. At least it was started by lightning, and not a careless camper or smoker.

Yep, heard it on the news today in the UK and something about the Governer, Arnold Schwarzenegger calling for help.

But didn't know it was started by lightening.
Good to see a photo of the area nearby.

Good reporting Belmondo, but the real question is: Did you win any money in the casino? ;-)

Images do not have to be perfect to tell a story. Fire is now 60,000 acres and climbing. The image does show scale to me. As far as the smoke, I'm hearing the winds will be shifting starting Sunday due to the monsoonal flow so you may get the smoke where your at. They are calling for more storms from Sunday through Friday here in the high desert. Hopefully the rain will win over the lightning this round. Oh... Did you win?

Oh... Did you win?

Nobody wins these days. The casino is building a hotel, and they need the money too badly to let any of it walk out the door.

Wow, that is some fire. Hopefully it can be contained and there is no further loss of property.

Nice shot, but it is low in contrast. Try increasing it and darkening the highlights a little. You'll end up with a better shot. :)

Yeah it has been all over the news here lately taking a backseat to this whole Israel situation. It is really too bad to hear about all of the people losing their homes.

Anyways, it still made for a pretty cool shot

I saw something about it today. It's about 30 miles from someone's home my mother knows. I hope they get it under control soon. Oh, I used to work at a casino in Robinsonville, MS. What an experience!

Just wanted to add a couple from last tuesday the day when it really took off. First pic is from over the big bear lake area and the second from just north of it, both shot from a helicopter.
