Hey, first of all I wanted to say hello as I am new here.

I have not long just taken delivery of my first Canon SLR and am very pleased with it.

I have a question that I am hoping someone will know the answer to.

I may have just made a boo boo - I have just won on ebay the canon extender x2 (Mark 1 I would think) and was planning to using it with my Canon EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM lens but I am wondering if it will work?

I would appreciate any advise

Thank you.

Welcome! What DSLR do you have?

I don't see why it wouldn't work?

Bad news, Kushti.

Neither the 2X or 1.4X Canon extenders will work with that lens. Go figure.

The only lenses they work with are the expensive ones!

Sorry.

Hello:

I have the Canon 75-300 mm 4-5.6 III USM lens that I use with my 10D. I also have a non-Canon (Sakar) teleconverter that does work with the set-up. However, AF does not work and the quality is so low that I usually just end up not using the teleconverter and cropping the image later. Or, better yet, I move closer.

Belmondo is right in that the Canon teleconverters only work with a few select lenses. See:

I can confirm it won't work with the 75-300 IS.

I could only find two non-"L" lens it would work with and they cost a bundle also. Unless desperate for the money back, hang onto them until you get the 70-200/2.8L IS someday. Then it will come in handy.

Otherwise try to unload it now.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I had an idea it was going to be a no go but I had to act fast - oh well...live and learn.

Great forum BTW.

FWIW, I use a Tamron 1.4 teleconverter with my Canon 75-300 on a 10D without any AF problems or quality problems.

By the way, Kushti, please forgive my bad manners for not welcoming you to the forum. I haven't been hanging around here very long, but have found it to be an invaluable tool. I've learned an amazing amount in a very short time. I suspect you will too.

Again, welcome.
