Well,
My wife has been giving me a hard time about the missed eagle shots due to the missing CF card (that was 4 weeks ago for heaven's sake). I've had to listen to comments galore along the lines of "Those would have been really great pictures...That's a really stupid thing to do... that would be the first thing I'd always check.. how could you forget that?" ad infinitum.

She confiscated my Olympus when I bought the 10D. So, she takes all the family snapshots now with her new toy. Today we went to the corn maze with the kids..

welllllllllllllllllll, she pulled out her camera to get the first shot, turned it on.. and to my ultimate joy and satisfaction, the screen blinks with NO MEMORY CARD... heh.. I did the snoopy dance and sang a song about "That'd be the first thing I'd check..." etc, etc, man it was great. To make matters even worse, all her cards were at HOME... I didn't even bring my camera today but I reached into my jacket and pulled out one of my spare CF cards (got one tucked away in every regular jacket I might wear), held it up and said, "ohhhhh, too bad your camera uses SmartMedia.. unfortunately it wasn't *Smart* enough to keep its *Media* in the camera...heh heh heh"

If looks could kill I'd be logged in from Hell's Internet Cafe even as I type. No pics today, but lots of fun and at least I got a little turnabout.

I thought maybe one or two of you might find this story entertaining.

Take care,
David

:D.
I once drove 60km's to shoot some surf action, and when arriving I powered up the 10D, and shot a few shots, only to find out there was no CF in the camera.
Ever since I have a spare 128MB card in my camera bag.

It can happen to everyone.

Greetings,
Frank

David, have you considered marriage counseling?

Even I know not to start anything over camera parts.

Been there, done that.
In wales on my last holiday I was walking the clifftop path on a hunt for wildlife and I dropped across one of the rarest birds in wales - one that I had been told was virtually impossible to get a good photograph of, and some nature magazines would pay top whack to buy photographs of them.
Picture this, the bird is about the size of a rook, but has a red beak and red in the wings, and there were 5 of them about 15 feet away from me and my 10D with the 100-400L. Raised the camera, they just looked interested. Focused - No CF message on the camera!!!!
No spares in my pockets!!!
I could have screamed, it was my last day there and the light was beginning to fade.
Those shots could have paid for my next lens :(
I learned the very hard way.

It isn't just digital cameras that do this to you.
Some years ago we visited an English village which was very picturesque. My son and I walked down the village street and over a wall we saw some lambs. Every time I put the camera to my eye the lambs would run behind a tree. At the end of the street is a very old school where I took a few shots, and the film ran out. I fished in my bag for another film, only to find that there were none there - they were still in the car.

On the way back up the street, the lambs seemed to pose for me.

Man, that was the best laugh I've had in a while. We haven't considered counseling but we have invested in some of those inflatable boxing gloves.. Socker Boppers I think they're called. :-)

What a Royal pain (not to say that the other the posted film and cf goofs weren't, but it seems that one really cost you some potential pounds!). Luckily none of my colossal goofs have cost me more than wasted time, frustration, and the wear and tear on my vocal cords for the high volume expletive utterances. Sorry to hear about your misfortunate (literally) experience.

Take care,
David

Never had a problem with CF cards, but after three or four instances of pulling out a camera with no battery - it still being in the charger at home - I went and purchased a spare, which is always in the camera bag.
