Building a softbox...

What is a good standard softbox size? I'm going to use it for portrait/people what should I go with for dimensions of the front of the box? I'll be using a a 500 watt light to power it.

I can't afford a real one right now so I figure I'll learn on something cheap till I make some money.

standard softbox size? It will need to be bigger for full shots than for portraits. See the link below for alternatives.
