I took a load of informal shots at a friend's BBQ yesterday, and also what I thought would be a nice sunrise picture (prompted by a very early call of nature!).

It's only when I got back and processed the RAW images that I found out that I'd left the ISO as 1000 all afternoon. As a result, the pictures are fairly noisy up close (especially the sunrise picture, which has very fine graduations from blue to pink.

Only learn once, don't you? :o

Yep, It's a p1sser when that happens

Only once did it happen to me, although after about 2 shots I picked up on the ultra fast shutter speed noise of 1/1600 s It's normally a dead giveaway.

All is not lost...Many programs have noise reduction tools in them! Buy one and use it. There will be times where high ISOs are what you need to make the shot possible, and having the noise reduction tool (and other tools) will be important elements in the quality of the photos. Noise Ninja gets a lot of mention. I use the noise reduction Paintshop Pro X

This is the one I'm on about.

The rest of the pictures, being fairly busy are acceptable when shrunk for net use. but this one would have been much better at a lower ISO. I'll have a go at de-noising it soon without messing up the trees too much.

That'll clean right up. I played with it a bit.

Excellent work Andrew, many thanks. Actually looks like I've taken a half-decent picture now..! Any chance you could PM me very brief details of how you resurrected it please? (I've got CS2 by the way...)
