For those that have one or used one is this rather inexpensive calibration tool worth the expense? _ I use Mpix for printing and noticed by current manual setup (ViewSonic VP171b LCD) is close but not perfect.

thanks for the input

I bought it a few weeks ago, I don't print many shots at the moment but bought it so I knew what I was looking at was correct, overall I think it's great. The one thing I love about this is how it changes the brightness of the monitor in relation to ambient light. I noticed once I had calibrated that it had a warmer feel but apparently this is normal as most default settings tend to be too cool because it looks more appealing. Some form of monitor calibration is essential in my opinion and this is a great first step in to the minefield of color profiling. It's ridiculously easy to setup and well worth the cash.

I got one a few weeks ago. I think it is very good for the price. It immediately made the monitor more pleasing to look at and more realistic in the color reproduction. I could never quite get the hang of the Adobe Gamma process of trying to match the inner box and the outer box, etc. The ambient light monitoring is very good.

My cat knocked the unit off the desk, while it was connected to a frontside USB port, and then bit into the wire; fraying it. I found it hanging from the usb port. It no longer functions. There are several little teeth marks in the wire and one mark right through the outer covering. Electical tape did not fix it. I'm in the process of seeing if Pantone will fix it or my credit card will replace it with my Buyer Protection feature. Thankfully, it was only $80.

question: does it adjust the brightness too?

It adjusts everything, depending on ambient light. I played with one on a computer in one of my local stores. Very nice.

I got one a few months ago. I wouldn't do any editing without it. Well worth the money, works like a charm. Is it the very, very, very best? Of course not, but it is a darn close second.
