Has anyone used the Canon EFS 18-55 lens? I will be doing wedding photography soon and I need to get a backup camera to my 10D. A pivotal point is whether the 300D's EFS 18-55 lens is good enough to use for weddings. If so, then I would get a 300D instead of the 10D as backup. If not, then I will buy the 10D and the 17-40L f4. Here's the dilema for choosing the back up camera: 300D with EFS 18-55 @ $1,000 or 10D + 17-40L @ $2,300. The differential of $1,300 could sure come in handy for getting the 70-200L f2.8 IS. BTW, the price range for my wedding services will be low range to midrange pricing, i.e., $175 - $225 per hour in Southern California, Orange County and Los Angeles.

Mitch, you might want to explain your either-or proposition.
Why not buy the 300D body with the good 17-40L lens?

Hi Bob,
Getting the 300D and the 17-40L is definitely an option, but that would prevent my being able to get the 70-200L f2.8 IS. If the 18-55 works for weddings, then I could get the best of both worlds, i.e., wide angle coverage and the 70-200L f2.8 IS USM! My budget is that close.
Thanks for the interest, Bob.

I'm in Northern California, so why don't we set the border line at about Bakersfield? The only time that I go South of there is when I head for the Mojave Desert, and there aren't many weddings out there.

The original question is...is an EFS18-55 good enough for a wedding? This could make a huge difference, financially.
