Little River Band at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA

A friend invited me to watch the Little River Band play a concert last Friday night. I vaguely recalled the name of the band but wasn't sure who they were until they sang a couple of familiar songs from the late 70s and early 80s. I took a couple of shots and wanted to share some here in the PA forum in case there are any LBR fans out there.

The venue was at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA. They played a mix of relatively mellow songs and some upbeat stuff (you know, the clap-your-hands-over-your-head kind of stuff :) ).

I think if it's OK with the band, the house will allow it. In the case of the LBR, as long as you don't use any flash it's OK with them. But you won't believe how many people I saw using their p&s cameras and the flash went off each time. :)

I haven't seen this band since the late '70's. Always enjoyed their music. I'm really surprised they let you use a DSLR there. They told me to put mine away when I went to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert last week.

Leo, These are GREAT! I likeThe Little River Band. Haven't heard much about them in a while though.

The LRB donated one of their acoustic guitars to the local US Marines Toys for Tots campaign here through a friend of ours who also does volunteer work for the Toys for Tots campaign. The guitar is going to be auctioned off later this year to raise money for the Toys for Tots campaign.

Anyway, since the LRB was playing in the area, she wanted to get a group picture with the two Marines coordinating the Toys for Tots campaign this year with the guitar and one or more members of the LRB. We took the group shot half an hour before they were supposed to play. Since the other members of the band were busy setting up, Wayne (the lead singer/bassist) came out alone for the group picture. He had a security person with him (to keep fans from "mobbing" him I supposed :) ). We asked Wayne about taking pictures during the concert and he didn't have any problem with me doing that. I was practically running around all over the place with my two bodies and 24-70 and 70-200 lenses, looking for good angles to shoot from. There were lots of house security people posted at strategic locations throughout the concert hall but none of them said anything about not taking pictures.

If you go to their website (http://www.littleriverband.com), you can see all the places that the LRB are playing at this year. I was really surprised to see how busy their tour schedule looks.

As people might or might not know lrb started life in Australia. The band that is touring America now is infact not the real lrb band. I cant remember how but the guys in that band bought the name somehow, and when the real members tried to use the name a law suit started. The origanal members tour locally as bertels gobble shorrock, as legally they cant play as the band they created. Its a strange world we live when the guys who wrote the songs cant play shows as the band they created. Just thought some history on the band might interest..;)

I suppose you can say that a band is like a corperation and an entity unto itself. The members can come and go but the band still retains its name and, hopefully, its soul. Here's a more detailed history of the LRB:

yeah just a bit unjust though the real lrb cant use there own name.. the real lrb of birtles gobble and shorock have been playing round australia for last few yrs under that name. They put out a dvd of all the there LRB stuff under that name also.

Yes, they do, don't they? But I guess it's hard for them to look really excited when they're singing one of their more mellowy songs. ;)

Hi Leo,

We met prior to the Little River Band show. During the show I sat to the right in row A in front of you.
Although I haven't gotten the 85mm f/1.2 lens yet, I will still hope and dream to get it someday.
Since then I have upgrated my Canon camera to a 30D with 5 new lenses. Mine 50mm 1.4 is the best choice for now without flash.

Penn's Peak has gotten tough on cameras lately and do not want any extended lenses. Most of the shows restrict use of a Flash. Also the cameras can not resemble professional equipment. I had to tone it down by taking off the lens hood, the eye pc., no battery grip, small camera case, just to get in. 35 mm SLR types are ok. This renders 3 of mine 5 lenses useless there. Your PICS look real sharp. I know where you were taking them from and am surprised that you managed to get these pics with out flash. I tried mine IS lens there and sometimes it worked out. I also went through your gallery of all the PICS. Excellent.

Mine Equip. (all Canon): 30D Bod., 50mm 1.4 USM, 50mm 1.8, 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 not USM kit stock, 28-135mm 3.5-5.6 IS USM Wide Angle Telezoom, 75-300mm 4.0-5.6 Telezoom, RS-80N3, several tripods, mono pod, no flash yet, dozens of filters/close up lenses.

I LOVE JIM THORPE!! It's deffinately one of my favorite towns ever. It's gorgeous.
