BESIDES A LITTLE SHORTER & NO IS, IS THERE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN SHARPNESS & SINCE THE 28-105 is THE LIGHTER LENS , WOULD" IS" BE NECESSARY?

Assume you mean the 28-105 3.5-4.5 since Canon doesn't list a 3.3.

I've owned both. Bought the 28-105 first but replaced it with the 28-135 for greater range, IS and reported sharpness. The 28-105 is sharp but the 28-135 is slightly sharper.

See: http://www.photozone.de/2Equipment/easytxt.htm#Zstd

The 28-105 rates 3.00 out of 5 optically vs. 3.25 for the 28-135.

Guess what? Just came back from a wedding. The wedding photographer used a 28-105 and a 10D for the whole wedding. What do your think of that?

I think he probably either likes the 28-105, or can't afford the 28-135IS. Everyone has their own preferences. I have the 28-135IS and have had it for a year. Love the lens. The IS has saved my butt on several occasions and made a shot doable when other lenses would have failed.

No, it's not the sharpest lens in the camera bag, but post-processing takes care of that in a jiffy. You can read the reviews and opinions all day long, but it all depends on what your needs are and your expectations.

I bought a 28-105 when I first got my D30 and have so please with it I still use it today with my 10D.

Mine is very sharp with good contrast. I have read of negative comments about this lens and that leads me to believe there are differences in quality between these lenses. Mine is a very good one!

I'll admit there is a bit of softness wide open but most lenses do the same thing. As far as I'm concerned, I see no need to "Upgrade" to another lens.
