Hi!
My camera is NOT working. It was this morning but something went wrong this afternoon and I don;t know how to fix it.

It is a PowerShot S20. When I click the dial from the off position to on to take a photo, the lens cover opens, the lens comes out and then about 3 seconds later it goes back in - almost as if it is trying to 'reset' itself. During this time, the display on top of the camera tells me how many pix I have left. Then I get Error Message E06 (or EO6), which I cannot find in my user guide. The shutter button will not compress. I am able to view the photos on the camera. I have not downloaded the few pictures that are on the camera. I have re-charged the battery.

HELP! I have a 26 month old and a 7 month old and not 1 day has gone by where I did not take photos of them.

Thanks, Amy

Have you search this forum for similar problems? There are people who has there lens stuck in certain position, and the solution is to give the camera a whack (at your own risk), while it is moving.

As your problem seems to be in the lens, download the pictures and call the support to see what you need to do. (if under warranty of course, otherwise it might cost you)
About the whacking, it was about E18...dont know if this is the same problem...

Sounds like some part of the camera is failing a self check mode. It could be a simple thing to get fixed or it might not. Contact Canon to find out what is up if no one here has direct knowledge of E6 error code.

E06 is something wrong with the image processing (heard from a reliable source) :-)

Hi!
We tried 'whacking' gently and that worked for a few minutes. We tried what Canon on-line told us but decided to bring it into a camera repair shop. It's definitely the lens not clicking completely into gear. Thank you all for your ideas!

hi - to update
we took the camera to a repair shop and now they are sending it to canon in Illinois (Indiana? one of the "I" states). The tech found there was fluid/moisture in it. we don't recall being out in the rain or anything. sucks that i'll have to go non-digital on halloween. are there places to rent cameras? haha
thanks, amy

Yes, large camera stores usually rent out cameras. Search in your own area.
