Welcome to a thread running an idea up the proverbial flagpole. :)
Please vote in the poll once you have know the backstory; a proposal to market a coffee table colour book of photos in the POTN store (all pics shot on EOS bodies using Nifty -the famous plastic 50mm- by members of POTN in many varied places in 2006/2007).
The thread where this proposal surfaced, post #557

How many hands has nifty passed through now?

I really don't... at a guess 20.
In the next 12 months who knows what the total will be.
I think the "world tour greatist hits collection" should be planned for print in 2007 sometime, after about a dozen more countries.
I think the pix included should be selected by the membership in a people's choice vote.
Thats just my initial approach. We need more ideas to kick around please.

I would buy it, just because I think the whole 'Nifty' concept is so great
Too bad we won't be able to get anything from Canada.

I drive through Canada every couple of months and I wouldn't have a problem meeting up with one of our Canadian members on my way through and handing it off personally. I'll be going back to Michigan on August 31 if Nifty has finished making his rounds of the US. After that it won't be until December.

Cool idea! Costs? Shipping to NZ?

I think Becca is suggesting Nifty is snuggled into Canada :)
Could Nifty find a flight out of Canada Co. without paying taxes?
Incidentally the Nifty #1 reference in the book would be sort of lacking without a photo of a Canadian Customs building I suppose.

Yes shipping.
Costs tba.
(the language is lagging behind technology. The term should be jetting.)

I'll be a buyer.
I would even support a nominal markup if the proceeds go toward the site's upkeep.
....not that anyone has made the suggestion.

Ditto hear as well. I'm in for two books(one for each sitting room);) . We should also make it available to POTN members that may like it as a novelty if then price is far.

There are a lot of companies that sell these books. To avoid excessive shipping costs it may be possible to set up multiple sources and people get it from whichever works out best for them.

I'm daydreamin' but one day the best 100 pix or so will be ready... and the layout will be done... and the quote will be ready for printing... and the book project will be looking pretty darn good....AND THEN Canon Inc Lens Marketing execs see it online and help print it for us.... is that ... I think I just saw a pig fly by my window!!! Gotta go!

Yes I think a POTN book would be cool. I think I mentioned this in a posting I did earlier this year. Trouble is we are our own critics so asking somebody for there best photos might be harder than you think.

I think those in NZ need to wait until Nifty has finished his world tour. (after all, thats where he started).
I'm looking forward to nifty coming to the UK - just don't send him to me first...I can't afford custom charges :(

And as a thank you for providing them with this excellent marketing tool they will send the various nifty contributors each one of the new 50 1.2 L lenses that just rolled out of the factory.
OK I realise that lens doesn't actually exist but I can hope.

Canada is open for business too!!!
Drop Nifty off with me for a shot of our parliament buildings (or poutine?), and my next trip south will re-import it back to its native land.
Or it can be shipped in ways to avoid taxes.
Becca, drop me an e-mail when your coming. We can arrange a meet or another method of getting Nifty here.

Wouldn't that make Nifty an illegal immigrant? :(

I've never had to deal with customs charges... how much do you think they would charge for a USD$70 lens?

Apparantly there is no such thing as an illegal immigrant in Canada, just a citizen who has not been found (self deleted, politically incorrect, add-on) yet:rolleyes:
And that comment was for the return to it's natural country, so it would be considered repatriating.:D
Hopefully, this entry is not too political, not meant to start anything. Mods, if it is, please delete.

I'd buy one, but only if Nifty made it to the Pacific Northwest to get some of our beautifu scenery included as well.
