OK don't be to hard on me here, oh well go ahead I can take it. These photos were taken less than 24hrs after getting my 350D. I had to borrow a friends Sigma 70-300 lens to even use it as I still had not decided what to get as my first. I know, taking indoor shots in a very dark auditorium is not idea for beginners. But anyway I was able to get a few pretty decent shots considering I was shooting at ISO1600. Anyway this is a friend of the family I was shooting while she was doing her solo performance. I put this little thing together just for fun. Was wondering does it look OK to show her and her mom? Or should I leave it on the Hard Drive. Thanks

Greg

Looks good, expecially since you just got the camera, and using a lens you may not be so familiar with. I think the main shot seems a little soft though

Thanks, yes most all the major images I took turned out soft. I was really shooting blind and hadn't a clue what I was doing  Most all these were taken in shutter priority 1/125 ISO 1600 at 250 to 300mm, no flash. Hopefully by next year I will have figured something out and be able to produce some better images.

Seems like your being a little hard on yourself. Supposedly that lens is a little soft on the long end, so maybe next time get a little closer. Also this will allow you to use a larger apereture.

I just ran it through a little USM,

94630

but now it looks a little over exposed lol....Well just play with it a little then it will certainly be perfect. I think the orginal is fine to show to the family. Remember WE are looking at all the details, most other people don't disect the photo as we do here. It's certainly something to share, not to hide.

You could try a bit USM (small radius, like 0.3; experiment with precentage (between 100-300%))
Then again, I don't mind a portrait being a bit soft. Looks quite good on this one.
Did you darken the BG? If so, on the main image, you just might have 'hit her nose': The end seems a bit darker then it should be. (hard to see in this size)

Thanks Rene, I will give that a try. I am not sure if I darkened the background on this one, will have to look at the original tonight. There were a couple that you could see outlines of the some of the stagehands backstage so I had to rid the pic of them. Glad you noticed that as I hadn't.

I like the original. The main image looks as though she is "drawing her lips tight" but it is my work monitor. I would not use the leftmost image as I think it unflattering but would replace it with something and make the small images a small bit bigger. I would certainly share it with her Mom but if she is underage I would be circumspect about any other unapproved sharing, sigh.

You've done a very nice job Greg, especially with new gear. I would agree with Dwight that the perspective of the photograph on the left side is akward and should be changed. Enjoy the new gear and keep posting.

I like it, it's a good concept.. I also agree about the leftmost image at the top, however.. have you got any other ones to replace it with? I think it's a great effort for only having had the camera for 24 hours, I certainly wasn't doing anything this complicated in photoshop after only that long :p

Dwight, sugarzebra and jim g, Thanks so much for the input after looking at the image I agree that I should probably change the left image and yes I have several more to choose from.

Dwight, I had thought and actually tried the other smaller images larger but I was afraid it might draw to much attention away from the main pose so I kept making them smaller. I will do back and see what it looks like bumped up just a bit.

Once again thanks for the critique!!

Love it - great concept.

I also agree changing the left photo. One in that position but looking at her side rather than legs up might work just as well.

Try enlarging those images but lowering their opacity. Should do the trick.
