Hi friends,
Its not for sure... but the person setting up the team said its 90%. I will most likely be joining a team of archeologist to egypt do help document new discoveries. I am pretty excited about that... but I am more excited about days off to go take pictures of new neato things. Have any of you lived there? Any suggestions?
Yours,

You lucky bastard.
That about sums it up :) Aegypt is one place I'd love to go (as well as Moscow, Ireland, Tibet and Canada).
Have fun.

My only regret about Egypt was not having more time to check it out. Hard to take in all there is in a 5 day visit. El Alemein was an interesting day. The Cairo Museum is a must. Did an overnight camel caravan to an oasis and back. Plenty of things to do...plus you will have a close up view of history being rediscovered....how neat is that?

I just got back from Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt 2 weeks ago and it was very nice down there. If you get a chance, I would check it out. It is a nice beach resort with some good photo opportunities.

Nice, sounds like it's going to be a great adventure. How long will you be there?

I haven't lived in Egypt, but been there a few times. I highly recommend a Faluca Sailboat ride down the Nile. You can pick them up in Aswan and do a 2-3 day sail. Very relaxing and a great way to see the country. Ask around for Captain Jamaica. He has several boats and is a lot of fun.

A lot of my family live there and they all say that you could go out every single weekend of your life and always discover something new in that country.

You will LOVE Moscow. Even though I visited there when I was 10 everything is still vivid in my mind.
I'd love to go to Egypt one day.

Congrats, I lived there for a year when I was little, my dad redid their water system. Unfortunetly it was in my non-photo years before I saw a camera. You should have fun it is a country rich in beauty and history, I've always wanted to go back!

I went some 5 years ago, and had an amazing time. Planning to go again next year, this time armed with a decent camera and lens bag.. not forgetting the tripod!
I stayed mostly in Luxor but visited Cairo too for a few days. If i was honest, i would say that i had a better time in Luxor and Cairo was more hype and not as i thought it would be. The Valley of Kings is a truly spectaculor place and you'll want to go back often to discover new places. Beware though as most places will not allow you to use flash. Aswan is another place you'll want to visit but expect to day an entire day to see these places. You'll do a lot of travelling so watch the weather and keep water with you.
Someone has already mentioned the falucca ride on the nile, and thats definately worth while. Another place which i have yet to visit but which is recommended by many people is Alexandria.
Sharm El Shaikh is a beach resort. From memory it doesn't have many (if any) historic artifacts, but to have a break it sounds like a good place to relax.
When you're actually there, prepare to bartar like you've never done it before. In some things you can expect to pay a 10th of the original asking price so don't get sucked in by all the markets. For me, the best thing i did was to be friends with a guy who ran a small shop in the hotel i stayed in, and then he went out to find all the things i wanted at the best price (as he was local).
I'll try to post some more as I remember it., enjoy your trip!

Went to Luxor about five years ago, had a weeks cruise on the Nile, then one week in Luxor.
It's a trip of a lifetime, with so many photo opportunities, the people are very friendly.
Next time we go, we will take little things like pencils, pens and note books for the kids, it's a huge gift for most of them as they have very little.
Take what ever equipment you can, as I'm sure you will us it all.

Sadly the restrictions on photography are becoming more & more prevalant, Cairo Museum is now apparently a no-camera zone, as are inside the tombs in the valley of kings.
The former I have some great shots of with a D60 & 16-35, the latter I only have negatives from a Rebel XS from the previous visit.
All this presumably because the thousands of tourists that couldn't switch off their flashes threaten to damage the artifacts. Still, a wonderful experience!
