THM files

I have often seen .THM files mentionned in different posts. I have a Digital Rebel and I have never seen a file with the .thm extension on my memory card.

Have I missed something along the way? How do you see these files?

I forgot to mention that I transfer my files via USB with the memory card in the camera. I don't have a card reader yet. Could this make the difference ?
