Hi, I need to blow off some steam hope you guys don't mind. Last night at 3am, my husband woke up and noticed our 75 gallon tank was really leaking, the water was already heading down the hall. So we scramble out of bed to rescue the collection of different Rainbow fish(my other hobbie)and try to stop the water by draining the tank(by now it's 3:40) So after a lot of quiet cursing(kids were still asleep)and using every towel in the house we get the fish to the safety of there new 5gal. bucket. Clean up what we could and try to go back to bed(now it's 5am) Now here is the part that really hurts....I now have to find a replacement tank, and realize the money i saved for my 190MF+488RC2 head + remote shutter release is now going to have to be spent on this other tank, well most of it anyway.  Just our luck. WE couldn't win for loosing lately. Thanks for listening.
off to petsmart...

Real shame that. It's a right bugger when something you've been setting your heart on goes up in smoke.
Still, what you you had to spend the money on is far more import than the tripod...

Can't you repair the tank instead of buying a new one?
Or the damage is to mutch for a repair?!?

No need to get a new tank. Go to an auto parts store and ask for a product called Pre-Sol. It is a cleaning solvent. Next get a razor scraper. Remove all of the silicone caulking inside the tank.
Clean the places the caulk was with the Pre-Sol and clean it again with warm water and dishwashing liquid. You may now recaulk it with Aquarium Sealant made by Perfecto Manufacturing, available at most pet stores.
Be sure to let the caulk cure for at least 48 hours before filling with water. I waited 7 days to be sure tho.
I bought a 90 gallon tank and stand for $100 at a garage sale. I was told the tank didn't leak. Well after filling that bad boy I was on the computer and heard a dripping sound. Investigating I found a leak and some wet carpet.
I did the above procedure and it has been over a year now and no leaks.
It takes a little time and some elbow grease but, it is a heck of a lot cheaper than replacing the tank.

This would be great but how long can my fish live in the 5 gal. bucket??

Let me know how many/what types of fish. I have a couple friends who are really really into aquariums and stuff. They'd know how long they would be okay in the 5 gallon bucket.

As long as you agitate the water or replace it with non-chlorinated new water, they can last several days or longer. It's all about getting oxygen into the water.

When you get the new tripod make sure you post a picture of the new tank so we can all curse the thing that made you wait for your tripod :)

Oh that's the tank you're talking about. I thought you were talking about a household hot water tank. Come to think of it makes sense since you were talking about fishes and all that :o
Awe so now how can I now unleash on that bundle of colour

That's a nice tank! Stupid question though...did it come in the wood casing like that or is that "furniture" that you added the tank to?

Hey cdi, Thanks. the bottom is a stand, and the top is what they call a hood, it opens up so I can feed/clean. I bought it all together but it is actually 3 pieces.

That's cool. I figured it was 3 pieces but wasnt sure if it was bought together, or if you added a tank to a regular non-fishy cabinet type deal.

I wish I saw this earlier....I own a website that sells fish, corals and supplies and could have tried to save you some money. Glad it worked out for you.
FYI: fish can live in a bucket just as long as in the tank if you keep the water parameters stable.

Nice to see all those photos everywhere, and I couldn't take my eyes off the Ansell Adams book you have so proudly displayed; the sign of someone truly devoted to their craft. <thumbsup>
