June 15th there was the 'Enschede Music Festival'. In Atak played Dutch singer-songwriter Marike Jager (http://www.marikejager.com/) with support act 'Smutfish' (http://www.smutfish.nl/) (both have some music online for the curious).

Needless to say I was there taking pictures ;)
The suport act had one of Ataks volunteers behind the lightboard, Marike Jager should have IMO. Light was actually better during the support act. Pity. (What part of backlighting didn't he understand ???)

Oh, my, I am in love with Marike! Nice images and she has a smile to die for.

Nice, istn't she. Good voice as well. Somehow I still managed to get a few shots of the rest of the band ;) (Okay, the bad light also helped; Marike was most well lit)

not sure if the reason i like the shots of Marike the best is because of technical or primal reasons.

Yes, she definitely is a beauty, in a cute sort of way (if that makes sense at all  ). And you did a very good job of capturing her in your photos. Any chance she'll do a USA tour? :)

Thanks everyone. (I think ;))
AFAIK no USA tour is planned. Another reason to visit the Netherlands I'ld say...

Another reason to visit the Netherlands I'ld say... You mean besides visiting you?

Actually I was referring to female bass players, dutch bands in general, beer, and tulips  Luckily, Enschede offers three out of four.

rene, do you have any photos of Bettie Serveert? i've been a fan of theirs since the De Arsten days (ie, pre-Carol), but never have seen 'em play.

Phew, that would be a *very* long time ago. It's 'De Artsen' IIRC (the doctors).
I think I took some pictures of them a bit later, back around '95. Film obviously, B&W IIRC. Don't remember ever enlarging one big, so I think quality was mediocre. Come to think of it, I did shoot 'em a year before. Hold on...
Got it: Tuckerrock, Hengevelde, june 11th 1994. Neopan 1600. A portrait of Carol.
I can take a look in my negatives archive and see if there's more and scan it...

yeah, typo on my part...got the De Artsen _Conny Waves With A Shell_ lp about 15 years ago at least. i'd be curious to see the BS shots if it's not a bother. :)

Of course it's a bother  Then again, it's fun as well, and I haven't touched my scanner in half a year or more. (since moving to OSX exclusively)
I'll see what I can do tomorrow. If I forget; remind me!

FYI: Marike Jager brought out a new single.
Watch the video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajVqXsU1ktI). Featuring Marike in the shower, and the rest of the band in the sauna... (I'd say it's work safe though )

Oh, she's a darling in that shower! But TWO percussionists and a bass player in there with her, oh, oh, oh!

Thanks for the comments all!

the fact he's playing with "Traditional" grip..not many do anymore!!!

Haven't got a clue on drumming: What is a 'traditional' grip?

trad grip was from the days when a snare drum was carried over the should on a sling. it uses an overhand grip on the right hand and an underhand grip on the left (to account for the angle of the snare on the sling).
