I am getting some strange noise in the background when shooting in low light situations. I am using an EOS 1Ds and only noticed this about a month ago. If anyone knows what this is and how to get rid of it, please let me know!

looks like classic low light high ISO noise. By pushing the CMOS sensors light sensititvity up with higher ISO you get strange color banding effects when there is not enough color information in the actual light coming into the sensor,. it seems as if the sensor just "rounds down" to the nearset color, creating such blotches.
Anyway,. my 10D sometimes does the same thing under extreme low light.

It looks like standard color noise. I tend to see it most when the light level is low and my ISO setting is cranked up high.

Neat Image might be able to fix it. Or not.

Thanks very much for replying. I was hoping that the problem was in my technique, which I can fix, and the problem is not a defective camera. This image was just quickly taken to illustrate a point, and I am not concerned about it at all. I posted the same picture and question at the Fred Miranda forum, and I am afraid that I was a little flamed by most of the group for being a poor photographer. I am certainly not a professional photographer, but I am pretty good at wildlife photography. I am not used to taking indoor, low light shots, and when I saw this noise a couple of weeks ago, in the background of some pictures of my baby, I became concerned that there was something wrong with the camera itself. Anyway, I think that I know what the problem is now and will work on it in future shots.

Thanks!
