Never before have I seen a Marsh Harrier except in bird books, so good catch at the last moment Rob.

Hello Rob;
I've only once, maybe, possibly, might have, seen a Marsh Harrier..
I guess you must have grabbed him over the Fens?
Even though it's not the best shot - it would still be a saver for me because of its rarity in the UK.
Well done...
Lee

Wow - I'm coming down to NE Lincolnshire. You seem to have the best collection of raptors in the UK there. If I want to see a Marsh Harrier I have to scoot up to Leighton Moss in lancashire (guaranteed sighting). It might not be the bests hot you have posted but it sure is a treat.

It's always great to see a shot of a species that is hard to capture. Well done. :-)

nice photo, this is indeed a northern harrier aka marsh hawk, and being gray it is an adult male. The females are reddish brown, both sexes have the white triangle on their rump right where the tail starts. I still havent got close enough to get a pic like yours and we have lots of these around here.
