"SimpleViewer requires the Flash Player."

It really helps if you embed some shots into your post...

OK, now we've got another bar raiser ... what's this place coming to? Welcome to POTN, Zepp! Terrific images. Would you tell us a bit about yourself? Can you tell us about your affiliations with bands/venues/labels if any? We've got about a dozen or so avid concert shooters here, both very new/amateur as well as somewhat experienced/professional at several levels. We are also spread from Northern Europe, UK to North America. So, again, Welcome.

Thanks all for the nice words....

I am a freelance photographer based in Sugar Land, Texas which is located just southwest of Houston. I have no affiliation with any band or label. I have been in "on and off" talks with one venue in Houston but we haven’t reached terms as of yet.

I shoot regularly for two local magazines doing the cover and feature stories as requested per issue. It's very fast pace, get in and get out people/community oriented photography. I also shoot for a couple newspapers from time to time along with my regular clients.

I have a wide range of gear with lens ranging from 16mm to 400mm. I find concert photography to be a challenging yet rewarding adrenaline rush. Waiting in the pits anticipating what the light will be like for the one to three songs normally granted as the sweat begins to bead on my forehead. Those feelings can’t be beat.

Another page of mine that has a few more images, both concert and others, can be seen at:

Once again, thanks everyone for the kinds words. I look forward to my time spent here.

Welcome, Frank. Great site. How did you find out about us? And can I borrow your telephoto sometime? Just kidding? Great shots and I'm jealous. Haven't been to too many concerts lately.

I saw mention made recently about this forum on another forum I am a member of. I can remember taking a look at this forum some time back but was busy at the time and didnt join up. I lost the site address then so when I stumbled across it again yesterday I joined.

I am currently waiting for the 400mm f/2.8 to pop to the top of my equipment budget, probably after the August accounts receivable are received. :-) I love using my 300mm f/2.8, sometimes with 1.4TC, handheld in concerts and since I can set up a tripod in my two frequent venues the 400mm should be a great asset.

Yes, the sweat ... my wife always says, "When the band starts playing you start shedding" ... (clothes ... usually a sleeveless sweater.) And I always discover I am soaked when I am done and can sit and watch the show.

Oh, and SuzyView is pretty reliable so you can loan her your lenses!

You will love it here. I was never really interested in joining a forum at all, but once I started reading the threads, I realized how helpful people were here. I have asked many questions and I think I've grown and learned more than I ever could have imagined. Stick around. You may just get sucked into the meeting in September 2007 in NYC and London.

Nice images ... you do a lot noise treatment? Your current avatar looks remarkably like Marco Antonio Solis. And finally, I saw that I mentioned getting the 400mm f/2.8 last time you were about ... I now have it and have used it, at ... Marco Antonio Solis a couple of weeks ago. :-)

Actually I do very little IF ANY noise treatment to my images. I think they get to plasticy.

The 400mm is nice. I use it more in sports than concerts. I did have to use it a month or so ago shooting Mariah Carey from the soundboard and had to use a 1.4X with it. Photos were a bit fuzy on the edges and nothing really special about them to add to my gallery.

My avitar is a self portrait of me. I'll have to search the person you mention.

I often get busy and forget to come out to this place. I'll try to do it more often.

Thanks

It's more than solid stuff. It's pro plus. Sharpness plus rich colors.

I wonder if he is using flash [fill flash] for any of his pics because of how sharp and bright different subjects look.

I would suspect that 95% of the shots were taken without flash, the one thing to remember is the big acts have great lighting at most of the venues the play. This makes a huge difference in taking great entertainment shots.

You've got a great collection of images there. The lighting at higher end gigs always impresses me with the way it adds vibrance to shots like yours. So far, I have only had the fortune of shooting at a few local clubs where the lighting was dismal and mis-directed at best. I look forward to seeing more of your inspiring work.

No flash was used on any of the images in my gallery. I've only shot one show at this level of entertainment where flash was even allowed.

Just post some more pics in a new thread...and you'll have lots of friends...It would be friendly, if you critique or comment on other postings..base on your equipment...you're a seasoned pro...we expect a certain level of interaction from seasoned pros with top of the line gear.

Up front you said you would post...taking the "5th" on this issue is dissapointing...

Frank I think he was actualy teasing you into posting some of your work, you'll find this forum to be pretty friendly for a forum of this size. We always enjoy seeing quality work and opinions from someone with your talent and skill.

Yes, scratching my head on this one also??? Not sure why he would take people being eager to become an active member of the community as a challenge or insult, etc???

I know what is missing...my post that I decided not to write back in October...The pictures were great then... Frank knows what he's doing regarding concert photography...It wouldn't hurt to have him posting around more often...

Why he stays home keeping quiet is beyond reason...
