With the popularity of the Nikon 18-200VR, do you think Canon is doing to answer with there own. Myself I wish Tamron would bring a new version of 28-105 2.8 out. I would like to see a 24-120 2.8 from them.

Actually, they don't. But it makes a nice versatile focal-length range and I think it would sell well, even if extreme zoom ranges bring about their share of compromises.

Well there is the Canon EF 28-300/3,5-5,6L IS though. Not so wide as the 18-200 but still a versatile lens :)

I think that Nikon's 18-200 was, in part, an APS-C answer to Canon's full-frame 28-300, but without the heavy, robust build. Remember that Nikon's entire camera lineup has the same sensor size. The Nikon is a mid-range lens in terms of build, which is not a bad thing. Similar in construction quality to the 17-85 IS USM or the 28-135 IS USM lens.

I'd really like to see 17/18-125/135 range lens from Canon, maybe even without IS but affordable... 18-200 is great range but such lens will always be more prone to deffects and probs with quality of photos...

And APS-C version of great 28-105 f3.5-4.5 lens...

I don't see Canon investing time and effort into such a long and expensive digital lens when they are clearly moving towards FF sensors.

Thanks for bringing this up.
One reason I may return back to Nikon is this particular lens. At such a range with such a price, hard to be beaten.
BTW I was quite spectacle about this one as I am always with long focal length zooms. But I am hearing a lot of good words from its user.
Definitely hoping to see the best for myself, being a devoted Canon fan, hope (But frankly don't think) Canon to make this.

But when Nikon goes full frame, and it will, it will be a useless lens.

Good point David.
But still Nikon is scoring on optional GPS to have that permanent record of location on EXIF. A feature that Canon has not still thought about.
Well thanks to you reminding me why I love Canon so much. Only wish it to see it as perfect as hopefully it should be.

I thought I saw an article (on DPREVIEW?) that said Ni*on would not go full-frame, but would stick with the formats that they have now. I couldn't find the article with a quick search, but I do remember seeing it.

Have Fun,
