Hehe congrats!

I'm considering doing a similar purchase. 1325 instead of 1257/8 - not really too sure what the differences between the two are - seems minor.

care to post a short review?

1325 can load more. but the 12XX is enought for me. G1258 can hold 17lbs, the heaviest lens i got is 100-400(3lbs), so 100-400 + 30D(with grip) + 580ex = about 9 lbs, so didn't even see the the limit....

woof! congrats on your awesome purchase hehe.

hopefully i'll be joining you shortly. still debating between the 1257 and 1325. the 1325 seems more solid and upgradable (like if i was to get heavier stuff)

but the 1257 features this new 6x/ALR technology - care to comment on those? are they somethin big that I'd miss - easier opening of the tripod has to be a good thing heh

I'm debating the same 2 tripods, albeit not very hard, because I need to have some money first ;).
To me, the ALR is a big plus. Apart from that, I find the 1325 a bit heavy. So probabely I'll go with a 1257 with RRS BH40 or Linhof ProfiBall 1. (depending on availiability in the Netherlands)
I don't plan on shooting longer then a 300/4.0 anytime in the forseeable future.
Photographer I know has a 1328 (?) and it's very sturdy, but a bit heavy. And I figure, a tripod that gets left at home isn't of any use ;)

Now, if the 1325 comes out with 6x/ALR, that would make things more difficult, 'cause it would get a bit lighter as well...

Excellent! Looking forward to mine as well. Wondering whether I should have got the 55 rather than the 40! Argh!

Just ordered the BH-55 and a plate for the 20D.

Didn't wanna spend 100 more for the L cause I hope to get a 1d someday.. lens plate was out of stock though :(

Now I have to get the 1325's. The 1257's are tempting.. but I think ill bite the bullet and go for the 1325. The bags though! 150 for the gitzo padded tripod bag, that is insane..

Got a nice "bat" bag from Sports Academy (USA), for my 1325 w\BH-55 installed, added padding myself, all for under $20! Not as nice or color matched as the Gitzo, but it works well!

YES! this is what i am thinking too!! actually i went with 1258 because it got 6X, if 1325 has 6x, i will definitely upgrade to it

Great Stuff

You can reduce by about 40% the amplitude of the cameras vertical oscillation by removing the plastic base plate from the centre column. The ball joint will then be attached directly to the steel bush at the top of the column.

Remove another 10% by getting rid of the centre column.
