What is the Best Battery (NP-E3) for Canon 1D. I am purchasing a body without a battery pack and need to buy a couple.

I have been considering Black Diamond, but I'm not sure.

I want to make sure it is safe, hopefully has weather sealing so the body isnt compromised, works with the Canon charger, and lasts a while.

Expect to see many 1D-related posts from me in the coming hours, days, weeks, ...

Thanks.

Black Diamonds are ok...lots of 1-series owners use them. Personally, I'd always get the Canon ones just for the peace of mind. Seems like if you can afford a 1-series (save the original 1D at its current low price point), you can afford the real thing. Not intended toward you; just saying.

I'm sure the PROs buy Canon. But I'm already getting a good deal on a 1D and I certainly don't want to spend 10-15% of the camera price on a battery when there are ones out there for 2% - As long as they work.

Gotcha ;) Just had to re-iterate for others, Canon is basically out of the picture for me ;)

The Black Diamonds , work great and last a long time, some of the early ones were no good ,but the newer ones seem fine. The fit of the weather seal is not as good as the canon , but if you have old or dead canon batteries you can exchange the end caps.

i have the canon one but i have Efilm for my backup which since i bought it I never got to use, well I am sure its gonna be be just a perfect backup one..... so it really doesnt matter for sure the black diamonds one will just be fine if you want it as your 2nd emergency ones.

I've got two Canon batteries and two Black Diamonds. The Black Diamonds have proven to be very dependable and last much longer. The rubber seal on the end just isn't as thick as the Canon batteries.

I believe that the Black Diamonds have had fitting issues (but that these have now been resolved). I've got one that doesn't fit very well at all, the other 2 fit like a charm. I also believe that they are not weather sealed. If weather sealing is critical, don't take chances, get the real McCoy.

shot a 1420 picture wedding on saturday on one Canon brand battery, using lenses with IS and minimal reviewing. I love these batteries.

I have 4 Canon ones, 2 of which I bought used from Keh.com, which made them cheeper. also note that the np-e2 is the same battery with a different end piece that is removeable with screws. just throwing that out there for the adventerous types
