My camera shop let me play with a 100-400 L yesterday. It was my first time actually playing with L glass, and now I'm sad because I want one, and I can't have one (yet). It was amazing.

yea i know how you feel on that.
I really wanted to get the 100-400 but I am trying to get the sigma 50-500 since it has 100mm extra reach and when its used will only be in good light so IS wont really come into play and its 500bucks cheaper.
To bad I just spent $600 on a macro lens the other way...LOL gotta start saving all over again.
This site is killing my cash flow...LOL

Same. I handled the Big White and it felt so wonderful. Sadly I only had the $$ for the Sigma, which was less than half the price (used, though.. but in very good condition)
Budget for a monopod, I picked up the Manfrotto 679B to go with it. Even if you're using it in bright light, the pod makes it so much easier to handhold because this is certainly no lightweight. And of course, the pod helps fill in for IS and lower shutter speeds. The 100-400 is considerably easier to handhold. Not saying it can't be done but a nice pod makes things so much easier. :)

Thanks, fixed and updated. Typo'ed it as 6.4 instead of 6.3.

That lens is just WAY too awesome... It makes me want to crack open my bottles of loose change to try to afford it. Somehow I don't think I have that much yet though...

I am getting big white someday. I figure probably 1 week before it snows here and I wont be able to use it for months. LOL
Then again I am getting a big tax return this coming April, so maybe I will just buy it then and have less of a wait.

After holding that lens, I'm tempted to go buy a 70-200 f4 L just to 'tide me over' until I can afford the 100-400 L. I was THAT amazed by the difference in looking through that L glass. My pictures come out pretty good overall with my cheaper gear, but now I'm itching to upgrade.
