These tiny (10-11cm) birds are some time refered to as diamond-birds and they feed on insects and larvae in eucalytus forests of Australia.

This one has found something of interest in a tree hollow ( hopefully a potential nest site ), several other birds also took an interest but time was against me so I hope to return and find out what was so interesting and maybe get some more shots.

These shots have beautiful colours! What camera/lens did you use?

Thanks Anthony, Sindri and samisbuff. I use the canon eos300 and a bigma. I have thought of getting a 400l but after finding out that Sindri uses the bigma and seeing the results I now want to get more out of the bigma.

Also my post processing is poor, I have a friend who is going to give me some tips and show me the ropes.

Excellent shots and background information. It looks like the Bigma is working OK for you.

When I seen your post title I wondered what the heck is that, awesome bird, great capture.I'll be watching to see how you get along with the bigma, kinda planning ahead for a lens purchase and will be comparing performance vs. price. thanks for sharing.

Well done scnapper. These shots make me want to get out and try and get some clear shots of the Spotted Pardalote that's near here.
