Just bought the 420ex flash to replace my 380 ex. Whether I have the G2 on "P" or "AV" (f8), there is an extended lag between fully depressing the shutter and the flash firing off. Have taken 15 pix w/ flash, only ones that match what I was looking at are the still lifes.
All pix of people/action are not what I snaped. The 380 did not have this delay.
Is there a trick to synch the shutter & flash? Am pressing 1/2 way for the focus/shutter & waiting for the green light.

This might be patronizing however I will say it anyway.

The G2 has a huge lag from the time you press the button to the time that you get a shutter release, as inherent to all digital P+S.

Is it possible that you just didn't notice it before you got a nice flash?

Again, I apologize for the possible patronization.

I've never noticed any unusual delay using my 420EX. Two things to consider: 1. Is the hi-speed sych setting on the back of the 420EX at normal or hi-speed synch?
2. Fresh batteries in the 420EX?

Called Canon customer service, explained problem. Tech had G2 & 420 flash set up - almost instaneous shutter/flash. Sent flash back to Canon - got back w/i 2 weeks. "Repaired unit Xenon lamp. Adjusted exposure. Electrical adjustments."

Did have a defective unit. All should be good now.

Thanks for all suggestions.
