I took this picture one night when I was experimenting with differnt lighting concepts. I set up the tea lights on the counter in my apartment and this is the result. The only post processing I did was to remove a few spots that were the result of a dirty lense. Please let me know what you think.

I think...you used the 5-aperture-blade 50mm f/1.8 II for the shot.
I think...there are tiny flares visible near almost every candle.
I think...there is something in the top left corner, and the edge of the table is in the bottom right corner.
I think...the reflections of the matte-finish table add a nice effect.
I think...the candles do not seem to mean anything in themselves, by themselves, and they have no distinct pattern.
I think...it's nice in itself, but might be better without the object in the top left or the edge in the bottom right.

I think I agree with form about the composition. If the candles were in some sort of pattern it might be more interesting. Maybe like a constellation? Orion is nice. :)
The edge of the table is a bit distrcting since the reflections end abruptly there. If you haven't tried with a shallower depth of field, that might be iteresting.
It looks like fun. There is plenty of room to play around with such a setup. :)

I like that there's no pattern... this shot works

Works for me too. I think people get so worked up over structure that they lose the freedom of photography to a certain extent.

I love this, very nice!
One small thing though, the edge of the table/surface in the lower right is a bit distracting.

I like it a lot. I was not distracted by the table edge as I can not see it. Some of you have really good eyesight.

I didn't notice the distractions with my first looksee. I was shooting tealights the other night and yours are way better! Very pretty.

or just calibrated monitors
maybe re-shoot it at different apertures, maybe wider and just focus on a few candles and replace it so the counter-end isn't in the shot.

i soooo agree with your comment. sometimes an interesting picture is just that. i also think some of the imperfections add to the character or overall feeling of the mood.

IMHO, if arranged in a symetrical pattern it would not work. the present random pattern is beneficial in that the reflection of each flame is not truncated by another candle. symetrical patterns often appear artificial and contrived. the glitch of the table (edge) in the lower right can be easily photoshopped out. did you use a cross screen? it's a great pic. good job.

I like it... it's very hypnotic and soothing (or maybe I'm just tired ;-) ) LOL It's nice though - I think it works the way it is.

It sets a very nice pleasant mood; the candles almost look like they are "rocketting" straight up due the flame reflection.
