A panorama shot of a Hawker dragonfly made from 11 shots in landscape mode (heavily overlapped)- just a bit of fun.

Brilliant stuff Brian. Each time you post you seem to draw something special out of the hat. That is a female southern hawker.

Shows you can shoot a dragonfly with an MPE-65 ;) :D
I as thinking of doing the whole thing but it took 16 shots to cover the body and one wing :)

OK Brian, you've set a new benchmark... people are going to be expecting more from you now!
I love this image! How long did it take you to stitch together? That's the only thing that generally stops me from trying anything that complicated - time.
Congrats.

You don't need an MPE-65 for this shot- a normal 1:1 macro lens plus perhaps an ext ring will give identical results.

Doubt I'll do many more of these unless I can't fit the subject in the viewfinder:)
As is usual for me I just do anything the easiest way- was using autopano pro for this- just took about 4 minutes to render the final pic.

great work though I imagine you could get the same just by shooting in portrait mode and sizing accordingly?

You could obviously take a pic in portait mode - in fact I should have done the pano in portrait mode but it wouldn't have quite the same definition
The original of the above pic is 3500 *12700 pixels

I can't believe I missed this, really great shot(s). Hehe, love the outcome. You ever get your stuff printed? I can see this as a REAL cool 12.5x63 inch print hehe, if there is such a thing.
Anyways, thats real cool and I've never seen that done before - great job man

I very rarely print stuff, but my daughter has a few large posters and other shots of mine framed in her house (flowers or water drops). I only did this as I as stuck with the wrong lens (MPE-65) and just wondered if it would work at all ( I have done insect Panos before so knew it was possible).

I suspect the mods are only really worried if the pic is too wide- it can mess up the page formatting and this is a one off :)

Just because you have a pile of wood and a hammer doesn't mean you can make a house.
Amazing skills and techniques. Thanks for taking the time to share them with me on your webpages.

I think you've misunderstood my comment. There was no disrespect intended. All I meant was the task would be near impossible if you didn't have software to help. I totally agree that there was a great deal of skill involved. Mind you, it probably only took Brian about 5 minutes to complete ;)
anyway... bump bump bump because I think it desrves to be viewed by future generations of digital photographers :)
