I noticed that these 2 are both 7.1 MP's but the g6 is considerably more expensive. Sorry, I'm new to the digi-cam world but what more/else does the g6 offer compared to the a620 that would warrant the higher price tag?

Compare the specs and review of each camera at:

Then decide which best suits your needs and pocket.

There's far more to a camera than the number of megapixels. As I just mentioned in another thread, there's some people that will call my 20D and three f/2.8 constant aperture zooms junk or a waste of money because I'm only 8.2 megapixels and they have a £150 10 megapixel Polaroid compact (http://www.jessops.com/Store/s35767/0/Digital-Compact-Cameras/Polaroid/i1032-Digital-Camera/details.aspx?&IsSearch=y&pageindex=1&comp=y). I know which I'd take!

The G6 was the last G series camera, and is now discontinued. It has various features that no current Canon compact does - most notably a hotshoe that supports EX series Speedlites and RAW support. Canon, like many other manufacturers, have pretty much quit that particular market (often termed 'bridge' cameras), as it seems that most people spending that kind of money go for a compact superzoom (such as the S3 IS) or an entry level digital SLR kit (such as the Rebel XT / 350D).

The G6 has a faster lens (f/2.0-f/3.0 vs f/2.8-4.1)
It has a remote control shutter release
G6 has one of the high number of shots per battery charge of all P&S...570!

Also, while still a "small format" sensor, the sensor in the G6 is larger than the A620 (or any of the superzooms) and so allows somewhat more control over depth of field (especially with the faster lens).
