Here is an IR shot from a studio shoot the other day. IR works well with studio lighting. Commnets always welcome.

Good shot How can you tell it's IR. Do you have a similar non IR shot to compare it to?

Beautiful image - I love IR for portraits.

How did you light this? Was it just vanilla studio strobes, or did you use filters/gels on the lights?

Thanks for the comments and questions. In response:

Bob - A Swell Guy, I do not have another photo to compare to. IR does an amazing job on reducing skin problems. Beacause blemishes have a red look, they disappear. Usually only a small amout of touch up is needed for blemishes.

Timm, I was shooting with another photograper who was shooting film, so the lights were set for that. No special filters are needed on the strobes. Strobes produce a lot of infrared light waves. I did think that the fill light shadows were more pronounced with the IR.

FYI - You usually have to work on the eyes and lips in PS. The iris will be lighter than it really was and the whites may be darker. Sometimes the whites just have funky (official PS technical term) look to them. You will also have to darken the lips, as they will almost disappear. Some photographers have the models wear blue or black lipstick (I have never tried this).

Sometime veins just under the skin will be visable.

Soooo, there is a certain amount of post processing necessary with IR (Isn't there with any image?)

I recently converted my 20D to IR and have been using it for portraits. Pretty amazing difference in the skin. Here is a sample in IR and the second one is without.
