View Full Version : twain driver issue

Canon Powershot G5

Still Image Service is started, has been restarted, and seem's to be working fine. Canon Twain drivers have been removed, re-installed and updated to 6.1, and I have re-installed the USB hub drivers for all USB ports on the device. The current OS that i'm running is windows 2000.

When I plug the camera into the USB, it detects and installs the camera fine. When I use windows imaging and select acquire image from the file drop down box... the "canon camera/DV Twain driver" window appears and it states that it "cannot detect camera".

I absolutely can't stand twain drivers, but also hate to have something not working that once was on my machine. I would like to fix this issue if possible. I would also like to know what other alternatives I have in order to download pictures from my camera using the USB cable that came with the camera. I don't like constantly pulling out the Memmory card, so I don't want a reader at this time.

I personally would like the camera to install itself as a drive mapping on my machine like my olympus camera did... is this possible?

It was suggested to me never to use Twain to download images from a camera. No EXIF info and some other things I can't remember.
WinXP will do what you want, but you said you are Win2000 so just keep that in mind in case you upgrade.
Breeze Downloader will work, I've used it for years. I don't know if the version for G5 is free or not. Check here.

Hope this helps.

I will definetely give that a try. If anyone else has further information that they have found that works, please let me know. I'm always open to try all other options.

Thanks again.

i'm not having much luck with the breeze download either. I have a feeling it's in regards to the original problem that is causing it not to work. Hopefully I can find a solution to fix what the twain driver has created.

Did anyone contact Breeze Systems? Downloader has worked for me on Win98, Win2000, and WinXP Pro.
But it was with the G1 not G5. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Rich
