Experimenting with ways to mimic a Lensbaby in PS. Not sure if it's as good as the real thing though.

Love the colors in your picture.
I was thinking of buying the lens baby, then changed my mind after seeing what can be done with selective lens blur in CS2. I find there is much more control on the output using Photoshop. I saw some great examples of this on this forum. Did you use this method Gary?
The effect worked fine with your picture .
Cheers :)

I first made a rough selection around what stays in focus. Then used a combination of motion and radial blur on layers experimenting with different blending modes and fade for each. Then added film grain and slight vignette to the corners.
Glad you like it!

Hmmm nice work, been wanting a lensbaby for a while now and I think will still get one as I like the ability to do in-camera. I'm trying to master my fishy at the moment!

Very interesting and attractive image. The colors and shapes do blend well to give a surreal quality. I like it.

My close-up set makes the effect like that. I dont like it too much.

Sando, did you use the lens baby with the macro kit with this one?
I think your picture is great. Just curious, what don't you like about it?

No I dont have a lens-baby, that's what I mean... the Hoya close-up set I have makes the edges of the OOF parts blur away from the centre, like that above. That was with just the +4 lens. If I use them stacked (+1, +2 and +4 together) it's even worse.
What i dont like is the fact that the focus doesnt perform like normal. Because of the concave (or the opposite?) the focus stays in the centre in a circle an the egdes 'fan' outwards, not like normal which you get a plane of focus along the image.
I tend to throw out the ones I dont like so i havent any extreme examples where the images look just like I used a lensbaby, but the one below sort of looks like it but wasnt 'bad' enough for me to junk! I will get some more shots of what i mean tonight if I can and post here for you to see.
See the edges of the rose where it is OoF? That's a mild example of what the close-up set does. Looks even worse/more 'lensbaby' sometimes too.

Cant believe they charge $150 for a lens which does that! Just buy some close-up lenses. I can still use the lens for non-macro too which gives the same effect.

There's a macro set for the lens baby on the market (I thought you were talking about this one in your first post)
Cheers
