If you need to escape the endles flow of tourists when visiting Venice, take the boat to San Michele cemetery island. That is a tranquil and lovely place. But remember to bring our own water bottles, I didn't see anybody selling those there a week ago.
More pics >here< (http://www.laasanen.net/album/Italy/San%20Michele%20Venice/index.html).

Lovely non contempary shots Olli :)
No:1 & 3 are fabulous, that wee hint of colour in an otherwise monotone shot really works mate :)

What a series Olli,extra good.
Liked the crosses one, what a place mate.
As balliolman would say...some of them would be perfect for 3D.
I take it you had a good and relaxing time there?;)

Creepy, I wish I had known about this place when I was over there! But I did get a photos of me sitting in Atilla the Hun's throne! :)
Great photos! I love the corridor shot it almost looks like there is a skeleton standing on the right in the back of the image.

I take it you had a good and relaxing time there?;)Dimitri, happy to see you found your favorite. ;) Venice is quite amazing, a bit on the expensive side (small beer next San Marcus square 8.5 euros), but that is what we tourists are ready to pay. I haven't yet taken Balliolman's master class in 3D shooting, but as you say, this cemetary (and I guess cemetaries in general) would be a great place for that.
Some beautiful images there Olli - The subtle colours are perfect, particularly in number 1Thanks Kevin. I shrinked and darkened the colour space in the 1st pic to get the mood I liked.

Great photos! I love the corridor shot it almost looks like there is a skeleton standing on the right in the back of the image.Sorry to here you missed this great place, 98. Anyhow, you got some compensation. ;) The corridor pic, as can be easily seen, is quite heavely modified. I reduced the highlight contrast to minimum to get the dark corridor more visible. I also filtered the edges (Filter - Stylize - Find edges) and merged that with the original (c. 50% opacity). Colors are either not very original. ;) The skeleton on the back is nothing more than a scaffolding. (Good that I did not clone it away.) :D

Ahh. I was wondering what you did to the second shot, I was thinking HDR or something :)
I really like the first one, the muted colours are just right...

Great series, the first shot is gorgeous, love the desaturated colors.
The 2nd shot is interesting, what'd you do for processing? Not sure what I think yet. :)

All the pics contain a verain mood through out the album you pasted. I think pic 6 in the album has extreme colors and pic 8 is wierdly creepy but at the same time beautiful. Love 'em as always.

Jim, Les, Becca, Anna, Dorman, Ben, Roger, Allu: big thank for your positive feedback. Some comments.

The 2nd shot is interesting, what'd you do for processing? Not sure what I think yet. :smile:That was only playing with RawShooter and PS, though I was aiming to get somewhat abnormal feeling. What I did not mention in post #7 was that I also increased the fill light to maximum, slightly increased saturation and decreased vibrance, and moved the color balance a bit to bluish. I also corrected the perspective which was slanted due to the lens used (10-22). If you like to compare, the unprocessed (auto all in RS) picture is >here< (http://www.laasanen.net/POTN/IMG_3518-02_corridor.jpg).
I don't know what it is, but I like cemetary pictures. I'll be taking some soon too :smile:There is something special in graveyards. If you search the forums, you can find also others who have this interest. ;)

Eccellente, Olli. Quite evocative. Perhaps even my favorites so far, although the Burmese Monk holds a special place in my heart, as well as A Smiley for Wu, of course;) hmmmm the more I think about it. . .
Darn Olli, so hard to select just a few of your winners.

Wu, ChopstickHero, John, Jamie, I'm very pleased to get your comments. I feel this time the extra time spent both when shooting and postprosessing payed off.
