I am thinking about picking up a used 1D Mark II or Mark IIN for the speed and for sport photography. I was planning on buying the Mark III whenever they came out but do you think it will be worth picking up a Mark II and or Mark IIN for now and then sell it or sell my 5D when the new version comes out or should I just stick with spending my money on more L lenses :) (which never seems to end!)

Get a MKII don't worry about the "N" unless you really need a slightly larger LCD and new JPEG modes.

There's a little bit more to it than just that. Albeit subtle, significant upgrades that make a huge difference for some nonetheless.

But I agree. The mkII, or even mark I for that matter, are more than up to the task. Latest doesn't always equate to greatest. ;)

careful, if you get one, you may never want to pick up the 5d again

I would buy f/2.8 or faster glass before investing in a 1D series body since you already have the 5D

I am planning on picking up the 16-35, 15mm fisheye and the 70-200 IS f/2.8. The 70-200 will end up being the last one because I need a good wide angle lens right now. Do you think I should forget about the 70-200 IS f/2.8 and put the money towards the N or should I just get a good used Mark II?

That is a good point, I bought the 5D to use until the Mark III came out but I also liked the size of it. After using the 5D, I think I am more ready for the 1-series cameras so lets see, if I were to get one now, I might end up selling the 5D.

Latest doesn't always equate to greatest. ;)

That is true and if it ends up costing $10K  I know I wouldn't be buying it anytime soon...

Don't worry about the N, the Mark II will be fine. I'd get the 70-200 IS before the fisheye, its a special effect lens that gets tiresome fast, and probably something you won't use on the 5d, and really doesn't offer than much more than the 16 side of the wide angle lens you will get.

and thats why i started to buy glasses first, not that much i got but they are enough for a while, then i will buy 1Ds II and 1D mk IIN and feel happy with that gears. just 400 and 500 are the last gears i think of within 2 years for now, after these 2 years i will think of new glasses or new bodies if something new will come in the future. I feel i am walking in the right way.

Thanks everyone, I think I am going to buy some faster lenses (16-35 and 70-200) now and then I will pick up the Mark II or N when I get some extra money. Unless I find a really good deal on the Mark body...then the 70-200 might have to wait.

A bigger buffer mode too. Supposedly an even more improved AF(but then the orig is still damn good).

Hi

I bought a 1Dmk2n a couple of months ago. My feeling is that there are persistant rumours that Canon will merge the 1D and 1DS ranges into a single camera with a large sensor and a high speed crop mode. Nice idea, but if that happens then I suspect the price will be at 1DSmk2 levels and I cannot afford that.

All the best
