What did they do to remedy the problem? Did they replace or repair anything, or did they test it and find no problem with the camera?
If they have not been able to reproduce the problem, perhaps the card itself is defective. (Did you send the card in with the camera, or did they only test it with a their test cards.)
Is there a circumstance where the problem always happens, or is it a rare occurance that eludes reproduction? (Happens once, but problem goes away quickly.)
Do you have more than one card? If so does this occur with all your cards?

Format ALL your Cf cards! if that doesn't solve the problem you could fix it yourself if you dare!! if you are prepared to try the fix i'll tell you what to do. so leave a message here if the format trick doesn't work.

I think I am having the same problem.
All three CF cards I have do not work all of a sudden after 1+ years of being OK.
If you power up the camera with a CF card in the slot the camera stays "dark" for some time until you finally get a 'CF Card Error'.
If you attempt to format the card the camera powers down after a few seconds with a 'E50' error.
I have used the CF cards on a PDA fine. I think the camera is at fault. Is there anything that can be done short of sending the camera to Canon (argh - $$$)?
Thanks in advance.

I found your comments on the G2 forum. I hope you can help me with a cf error. I have a G2 with firmware 1.1.0.0 from factory. Loaded some pics onto my win xp hard drive, attempted to reformat cf card in the camera and got a cf card error and camera powers down. Now every one of my cf cards gives the same error from 32-128MB. I reformatted the cards using a card reader and FAT, not FAT32, but the G2 (which gives an aberrant tone on startup with the card in place) keeps giving me the same cf card error. (E50). Powershot.com suggests I send the camera, barely out of warranty, in for $$$ervice. Does anyone have a fix for this? Thanks.

Hi all,
So I have not been able to read or format CF cards in my Powershot S20 (see my earlier post) so I called Canon and got the run down on how to return the camera for service.
I removed the battery and CF card as directed and brought the camera to work to ship it from there but when I got to work remembered that I had forgot my warranty information (even though the camera is out of warranty they want that). I left the camera in my car (it was about freezing outside) and drove home that night figuring I would ship it the next day.
For the hell of it I tried the camera that night at home and it worked! Either the jostling of the drive, 8 hours of coldness or 8 hours without a CF card or battery seems to have fixed the problem. Huh?
Anyone else experienced anything like this? Weird...
