Converting to black and white again, had fun ??? tweaking levels and sharpening in the b&w version.

Back in one week, leaving for vacation with no cell phone no computer, only electronics i'm bringing with me is my camera.

Cheers :)

I love black & white photo's but the colour version for me is far more interesting. I may be a minority of one but B & W is a great medium for landscapes, cityscapes and portraits. Subjects like this lose virtually everything they have going for them as monochrome images.

That said, the conversion is excellent with a full range of tones from pure white to pure black. The mid tones are well defined so technically it is an excellent B & W but the pebbles aren't very interesting without their colour.

I'm going to have to disagree!

I loved the color one, but when I scrolled down, I realized how much more I liked the BW version - especially with the great conversion.

When I flip between the two, I see things ine the BW that I can't see in the color one - very effective. Love it!

I do like the B&W conversion. As I said it is excellent and yes, there are things that you see in the B&W that you don't see in the colour version. The clarity of the pebbles in monochrome is excellent as well. Having said all that, you also lose things in the B&W version like......

The prism effect of the band of light running towards you from the last pebble is lost in the B&W
The middle pebble looks transparent in the B&W while in the colour version there is a slight rainbow effect.

Both images are good and each version has it's own merits. I love collecting B&W photo's but given the choice between these two - the colour one holds more interest for me.

I much prefer the B/W version, the light shining through gives it a nice kind of texture and the shadows are nice.

The colors of the pebbles are nice, but I prefer the desaturated background. Dare I say maybe selective coloring? I know it's a bad word around here, but sometimes it has its place.

Thank you for comments and suggestion.

Something I'll try is to get rid of the reddish color seen on the vertical posts of the color version.
I don't think doing only that to the picture will turn it into a "selective color one" (because it's a bad word of course) ;)

Cheers :)
