Hi-
I thought I had read here that the G3 would support the autozoom on the EX seried flash units. I just got a new G3, put a 380EX on it, and tried zooming through the full range - but the light on the flash continues to blink at the 50mm setting - flash does not seem to zoom at all.
Was I mistaken about the support?
If so, will the flash in its default position fully support the zoom range of the lens?
THanks,
Michael Jasper

Hi
do your photo exposure is correct ? if not ,i think the flash do not commincate with your camera ,try to clean the hotshoe and the fash pin ,or try to zoom in or zoom out by pressing down the flash against camera ,if it comminicate that mean the problem occur between the flash pin and hotshoe.
good luck

I will be interested to find out if its a simple communication problem or not as I was considering trying to find a used 380EX for my new G3.

Maybe your G3 needs a firmware update. This one corrects the operational instability with Canon Speedlite 380EX Flash. Follow this link.

Hope this will help.

Problem solved!
Turns out the reason it wasn't working was that I had the flash head in the bounce position - didn't realize that it only zoomed in the direct position, but of course that makes perfect sense.
One thing that's unfortunate is that there is no way to get the flash to zoom wider than the 35 mm position ... would be nice if the firmware on the camera allowed you to indicate that a wide angle converter was attached so that you could take advantage of the flash's ability to zoom to 24mm.
