View Full Version : How do I get what's on screen on paper?

Hi
Having recently invested in a printer (HP 1290s) I'd be interested to hear how I can best ensure the output from it matches what I see on screen.
I have found that when I print A4 size the match is very good - but at smaller sizes the colours go off beam a long way. Is there a reason for this?
Is there an easy way to calibrate the printer with my PC to give better results?

I hope you can get some resolution on this. I posted the same type of question ("Help D60, Dark Prints") and have not really had many replies. I'm baffled by what I see.
One thing I know you can try is to make sure you are working in the same "color space" on screen as your printer is set up to use. Do a search for "ICC Profiles" and that will get you started.
Good luck. If you find out anything, please post. I'll do the same.

I don't find that printer on the HP site, but I would suggest it is either a printer driver issue or it is that the software you are printing from prints the original photo size correctly, but then scrunches it together for the smaller sizes rather than scaling down resolution and color. If it makes no difference which application you print from, it is probably the printer driver.

Did anyone consider calibrating with a spyder? I have no experience with using one but I know Sleghamer has one and from what I remember has had good results. You might want to message him.

Yes, I calibrate my monitors with Spyder Pro, but I don't think this is the problem here.
Rather that when dewmuw's photo is printed close to it's original size it looks fine, but when printed at smaller sizes it is in a sense "condensed" down rather than properly scaled down.
