I took these on the second day into my trip, the weather alternating between rain and just plain overcast. I thought a slight pink duotone would suit these subjects well.....can't let the weather determine shooting time.

I think these would benefit from a more dramatic skyline. I did a quick edit by selecting the sky including the bit seen through the window and applied some levels adjustment by simply sliding the gamma slider to the right. I quite like it though it may not be to everyones taste. This would probably look better if the darkening of the sky had been applied before the tint.

Thanks littleben it's my pick too......storeman I like your edit and would do the same but I'm not good with the selction tools so I pretty much stick with dodge and burn, toning, contrast adj etc.....oh and some cloning when required, I guess I should spend more time on PS skills.

bikerider - it's amazing what can be done with the magic wand and the shift key. It's not always the right tool but the selection on this image was prety straight forward with only the couple of trees and bushes making any kind of problem.

Foorgot to mention - I ran across the line of the horizon and round the dunney with the blur tool just to hide any sharp edges that where very obvious.

I make a total mess with dodge and burn tools. Guess I need to practice those myself.

Robin I went to a place called Broken Hill for the first week of my holidays, it's in western NSW and I did 2800 klms ovr six days. The area is famous for early mining of gold, silver, tin and iron-ore, although a shadow of it's former self it's still mined today. The surrounding area has also been well used for film locations-Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Mad Max to name two very well known films. It's an area I'll be going back to, for me it's rich in subjects!

Sounds great! I haven't gotten to Australia yet, but it's on my top 5. :)

Fantastic work man! It really captures the feeling of these kinds of places. I wanted to say "really captures the feeling of..." and describe the particular feeling but I find it doesn't go well into words, which is where photos like these really shine. You've touched on something I think is familiar to most people, yet few people would be able to really describe it.

And the black and white conversions are fabulous
