I keep 'knocking on wood'...... No problem here with either of two G-1's...
One was bought in 2001 , the other in 2002... maybe there was a 'run' of fuses that were out of tolerance...at some period of manufacture.
I'd be interested to know if there have been any Repeat failures...after the original was replaced.
There must be fuses in other Electronics Cameras... I wonder how THEY do, and in what time frame? Probably no way to find out...

Yessss... thanks. I had seen that before. I was going to print it all out...... But as I read it through, I realized that my 250 watt Weller Gun was not going to do the de-soldering job ! Not filthy rich, but *IF* I get bit by the Fuse Rat.... it will be a bargain FOR ME, to let those with Micro Tools do it....

Okay, my dead G1 is back from the dead thanks to the posts people have made and the set of instructions/pictures provided by dvoeller (http://hunterftp.hunter.com/~dav/), proflex (http://members.optusnet.com.au/~jono/PowerInterfacePCB.JPG), and, and civi (http://perso.wanadoo.es/civi_/). Thanks guys! If anyone has any questions about the procedure, just ask. :)

Not filthy rich, but *IF* I get bit by the Fuse Rat.... it will be a bargain FOR ME, to let those with Micro Tools do it.... You know when I took off the back cover a screw fell out. I'm guessing that is the screw that caused a short in the camera and blew the 3.15A fuse. If anyone is curious as to which screw... I believe it was the back bottom left screw which holds the copper shield/'majorcca' to the frame, visible only if you take the back black shell off. That screw is very very short and I can see how it may come loose after sometime. I wonder if it being close to the movable LCD has anything to do with it (especially if you use the swivel lcd to hold the camera like I do at times). I wonder if those who are "not yet" affected by the "Dead G1" problem should perhaps take any pre-emptive preventative action to make sure that screw is "tight"? If I had an unaffected G1, I probably would as that is much easier than replacing the deeply buried fuse. Just my two cents. :)

BUT.... I'd never get those tiny screws... Looks like I'll have to keep living in 'hope' that the Little Honey that built the damned thing didn't have the flu that day, and used the right amount of torque...

BUT.... I'd never get those tiny screws... the right amount of torque...They are tiny, had to buy a brand new 'watch screwdriver' set. And I did give each screw (and others I saw inside) a good twist for good measure. Hopefully it'll last me another 2 years. :P

I need this page to be available really urgent as my G1 fuse replacement is done only half way.
Somehow the site is not there - and I have to thank him for providing such details for all Canon users here.
Any input would be most appreciated.

:( My G2 has the same dead symptoms. I can't locate the step-by-step instructions on getting to the DC/DC converter board and changing out the fuses. Does anyone have a current link to the instructions?
