Yesterday I took a day off and spent it at Los Angeles zoo. I really liked the colors in this shot

Very nice photo. Did you use a zoom lens to get in close?

I used a Tiffen 2x telephoto lens, f/3, 1/1000th, manual mode, autoWB

Thanks, the tonality of this image is what caught my eye. Unfortunately, I was focusing manually and missed by a bunch, even UnSharp Mask didn't help much. I should have used focus correction by pressing *set* after manually focusing or AF as there was ample light available.

Wow! NICE!

Do you find it harder to focus with a telephoto lens?

Focusing is no different with telephoto lens attached, most shots taken that day were fine. I made a mistake on (of course!) this shot.

I'd like to note that I am having difficulties getting focused shots when using an infrared Hoya R72 filter, regardless of focusing mode. It seems that a tripod is a must but even then focus runs away from me. Could anyone help with this, please? Should I play with metering settings? Thanks beforehand
