Lately when using my D60 with the 100-400L IS USM I will get an error flashing (no number). I have to remove the battery and re-insert to get the camera operating again. I notice this happens in low to medium light conditions or when I have focused on a subject and the subject moves (bird flys) as I snap the shot. I think it is a problem with the lens as this does not happen when I use the Canon 100mm/macro 2.6.
Any suggestions?

Sue,
It sound similar to a problem I had with my 70-200 LIS. Everything would lock, and aperture would show "00", which actually means "no lens mounted". It turned out to be a faulty IS unit, which was replaced by Canon Service.
Didn't happen every time and was temporarily resolved by popping the battery.

Jesper

Try cleaning the lens contacts (I mean the contacts between the body and the lens). I hope that helps....
